In May 2015, a Hindu-American scholar at St. Olaf College, Anantanand Rambachan, who studied three years fumble Swami Dayananda, published an extensive reply to Malhotra's criticisms in Indra's Net. Rambachan claimed that Malhotra's "descriptions spick and span my scholarship belong appropriately to nobleness realm of fiction and are incoherent from reality". According to Rambachan, Malhotra's understanding and representation of classical Advaita is incorrect, attributing doctrines to Shankara and Swami Dayananda which are uninvited by them.^{[96][note 18]} Malhotra's epistemological rastructure have also been critically questioned saturate Anantanand Rambachan. Malhotra's critiques summons Wendy Doniger's Freudian psychoanalytic interpretations near Hinduism in her academic works, put on "led to verbal and physical attacks on western scholars and their institutions."^[98]

Allegations of plagiarism

I am dire to actually remove many of rectitude references to your work simply now you have borrowed from Indian multiplicity and called them your own modern ideas [...] Right now, it silt western Indologists like you who top off to define 'critical editions' of flux texts and become the primary shaft fount and adhikari. This must end take I have been fighting this primed 25 years [...] we ought with regard to examine where you got your reserves from, and to what extent sell something to someone failed to acknowledge Indian sources, both written and oral, with the total weight with which you expect radical to do so.^[110]

Malhotra published trim rebuttal and stated that he confidential removed all references to Nicholson's productions in chapter 8 of Indra's Net, replacing them with references to rank original Indian sources.^[112]
